Model Home

3000 sq ft, designed and built by Marley Porter/Living Architecture, ~$90 /sq ft (new bedroom & bath added), completed 1998.

Features include post & beam framing, stained concrete floors, dry-stack style stone wall, handcrafted cabinets & tilework, and metal roof. Steve & Steve live in a model home- a model of how Central Texas residents can live in beauty and comfort, yet minimally impact the planet. It's an ideal we'd like to see designers strive for, too: passive solar orientation (with incredible Hill Country views); energy-efficient appliances; xeriscaping outdoors; low-flow water fixtures throughout; recycled components like the bathtub and site-cut juniper posts in the master bedroom; and a 28-foot rotunda entry topped by a cupola with remote-controlled shutters.

Mr. Isaacs suggests owner-builders can benefit more from job-only bids, than from time-and- materials contracts.
