Kinbasket
JUNE 14, 2009 – We followed the Jano’s across Alberta into British Columbia via Banff and Jasper National Parks to arrive at Lake Kinbasket on June 7th. Along the way we encountered elk, forest fires, frozen lakes, snowfall, and bright sunshine. We pitched our tent in an area a bear had been occupying, and could only hope he didn’t return while we were there. Later in the week we were joined by other campers from Alberta and had potentially three boats on the water. Unfortunately, the lake was higher than normal and the big fish deeper than usual. So no “BIG” fish stories, but we caught a lot of rainbow trout at the mouths of waterfalls. Great eating ! We found less of Garnet Island protruding from the lake due to greater snow melt, but we still picked up a lot of nice garnets. We had a lot of sunshine throughout the week and the temperatures were in the high eighties. With the high altitude and direct sun, most of us got sunburns. After a week of near solitude, we headed west toward home. At stop at the visitor’s centre in Williams Lake, we had a look at the biggest cross country skis in the world.
