hello everyone...
i posted a few days ago seeking advice about (and interest in) our fledgling community's land situation. thanks to all who have replied thus far...it is uplifting to have so many people willing to take time to write to help out a group of strangers. i have been encouraged by several respondents to add some information to make it easier for people to understand (and thereby assist) our situation...so here goes:
sorry for not including this in the original email, but more than a few respondents have reminded me that it is somewhat important to know where we are located (although i was also intrigued by getting advice on the more universalizable aspects of our quandry: possible relevant legal structures, existing creative models of land acquisition, anecdotes from people's past that closely parallel our current situation, etc). we currently live and farm on 6 acres in central kentucky, but are dreaming of something closer to 100+. we mortgaged this land mostly because we truly fell in love with this space, because we felt it was better than renting, and with the idea that we could find something else when/if the time came. as more people have joined the original group, we have now come to a time where our dreams and our numbers are starting to outgrow this generous and breathtaking land that we're on. we are, however, pretty well married to central kentucky (have lived all over the place--big cities, small towns, eco-villages, suburbs, both coasts, great lakes, deserts, mountains--and this is the best we've found). from our diverse experiences living in other communities we know we whole-heartedly believe in the general model and feel
that community living should exist everywhere as an example and viable
alternative. since this is the place that we all love together,
this feels like the most obvious place to live together. hope this helps flesh us out in your minds a little more. thanks again for the server-swell of support...it truly is heartening. we welcome anything more anyone has to offer!
revel
sean
